I offer Client-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Somatic and Spiritually-Grounded Transpersonal Psychotherapy, both online and in person, to both individuals and couples. I’ll break that down in a moment.

A good psychotherapist is a ‘midwife for the soul’. Part of Being Human’s mission is to make therapy mainstream, to make it a normal activity for us to seek the deepest unfolding of our truth and Being into the world. I firmly believe that to be the very best version of ourselves, we need a guide or mentor who supports us in that endeavor. Not to give us the answers, or even the questions, but to support us in discovering our own questions, and our own Truth within. That is what brings the healing. That is why our spiritual journey and our healing process are one and the same. And that is my goal as both a therapist and a spiritual teacher – to support the birthing and maturation of your soul and its fullest expression.

Just as important as the approach to therapy, is the fit between the therapist and the client. I’m happy to offer a free twenty minute consultation for anyone considering embarking on this journey of healing, so that we can meet each other and feel into the resonance firsthand. But before we even get to that, here are the prime beliefs and values that I hold. Hopefully these words and phrases can give you some glimpse into who I am, and therefore what I can offer:

I believe that we are all fundamentally good, and that each human being has a deep well of wisdom within.
I believe that our spiritual journey and our healing process are one and the same.
I believe that relationships are incredibly important, in life and the healing process, and yet we are ultimately responsible for our own happiness.
I believe that we can still live an empowered life during the healing process, or in other words, that suffering and joy can coexist.
I believe that listening is a powerful form of love.
I believe that we have a common source, a common ground that is made of presence, power and peace.
I believe that each of our souls have a unique path of expression and unfolding within this lifetime, and that can be met and expressed.
I believe that we must find ourselves before we can lose ourselves.
I value honesty, integrity and loyalty.
I resonate highly with the Tarot cards the Fool, Justice and the Hanged Man.
I describe myself as an optimistic realist.
I have been told that my ability to be present is potent.
I find awe in the natural world.
I learn everyday what it means to live with an open heart from my family; my two dogs, and my wife.
How can I help You? Here is my approach and what I offer:

Client-Centered: This work is about helping you to get to know yourself. I come to each session without agenda, and support you in your unfolding. I know that your soul has a wisdom that, even if you don’t know why or understand it yet, will lead the work in the ways in which it’s meant to go. My role is to create the container of presence, and to support you to connect to that inner wisdom, that can then guide the work. I may ask for your permission to offer suggestions, reflections or practices from time to time, however the goal is to connect you with your inner resources and support you into a place of radical Self-responsibility.

Trauma-Informed: The definition of trauma that I operate with is ‘any experience that was too much to be integrated at the time’. This definition greatly expands upon what is commonly considered to be trauma, and has helped myself and many clients be able to bring a deep compassion to their own suffering. We all have many such experiences that, not being integrated, are suppressed and therefore held in our bodies and our subconscious mind.

We will meet that trauma gently, again and again, with a loving determination. With this gentle approach we are able to expand the capacity to sit in uncomfortable spaces, and to bring love and presence to the wounding within. That is the agent of healing, your own love and presence.

Somatic: The body is the vessel through which we work, the medium through which we communicate with your deeper Self. The body doesn’t lie, and when we learn to listen to it, reveals so much. Every session will begin with inquiring into the sensations in the body, and to tease apart the sensation from the emotion, the emotion from the judgements, the judgements from the beliefs.

Furthermore the body lives only in the present moment, and so when we’re in listening to the body we are instantly transported into the present! And yet our body holds the unprocessed traumas of the past, and when they are met with love and presence they begin to be metabolised and released, bringing more and more spaciousness and relaxation into the body and our being.

Spiritually-Grounded: We work from the hard and contracted layers of personality through into the expansive layers of the depth of Being, and bring that expansion back with us into those topmost layers. Said differently, we work from the layers of manifestation into the spiritual core. The more we realize our spiritual core, the more we are able to recognize the spiritual core of those around us, and the more that we can live those spiritual truths that we may have touched in peak experiences. The work I offer is grounded in the spiritual systems of the Diamond Approach and Yoga.

Transpersonal: We work at different states of consciousness, that are ‘beyond’ the personality. We can access these states through many methods, in sessions that will primarily be through meditation, mindfulness and breath work. When we work with our personality patterns and trauma in this way, it shifts, open and releases in a more profound way that when we try to work with it from within the personality itself. When we then return to our default state of consciousness, we return transformed. The specific technology and method most employed is that of Internal Family Systems, a cutting-edge model of therapy that is inherently transpersonal in nature.
