This workshop will enable counsellors to:

   Understand the profile of a person at risk of suicide

   Understand those factors which place a person at risk of suicide, as well as protective factors

   Identify when someone may be at risk of suicide

   Apply techniques for responding to a person at risk of suicide

         

Workshop Overview:

Participants will engage in professional conversations, reflective activities and role plays as we address the following topics:

·        Statistics and facts

·        Myths about suicide

·        The suicide continuum

·        Profile of a person at risk of suicide

·        Protective and Risk Factors

·        Warning signs

·        Having the conversation – What to say, and what not    to say

·        Ongoing support

·        Self care

Workshop Presenter:

Cheryl  Taylor has been providing counselling services to individuals, couples and families for over fifteen years and has been involved in Counsellor Education programs since 2006. She is an Educator and Supervisor with the Australian College of Applied Psychology and runs a private practice in Port Melbourne.  For the past two years Cheryl has been delivering Suicide Prevention training to the legal profession on behalf of the Salvation Army.

Cheryl holds a Master of Counselling and Human Services, a Graduate Diploma in Counselling Supervision and has also undertaken training in Expressive Therapies, Sandplay Therapy, Family Therapy and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy.
